A youth training day organised by MX Team GB Junior World team manager Dave Willet and his Team GB co-organisers was held at Heerde in the Netherlands in May. The Heerde track is the venue for the upcoming Junior World Motocross Championship in July.
Willet and crew were delighted to receive positive feedback from organisers of youth events in other countries who were also in attendance at Heerde. While the young GB riders enjoyed the experience and invaluable track time on the deep sand track, Willet was receiving compliments on the positive attitude, training prowess and overall presentation of the prospective Team GB riders.
“The British team and have faced criticism in the past regarding our training process. However, I am proud to say that we are now leading the way in this aspect,” said Willet, who is also the promoter of the annual Apico 2-Stroke Festival featuring the Red Bull Pro Stroke National.
“It is important for us to continue our hard work and dedication to improving our training methods and, on this front, I’m grateful to Glen Phillips, Ashley Wilde and Lee Dunham for their massive input. This will not only benefit our riders, but will also help us maintain a strong and positive reputation in the international community.”
As all eyes in the UK’s motocross youth community turn towards what is arguably the most important youth motocross event in the world, and the main gateway to the FIM Motocross World Championship, the preliminary Team GB Junior World shortlist has now been finalised. Serving as an early opportunity to start preparing for the event, the riders on the shortlist have been selected after showing their potential and dedication in their racing and training.
Dave Willet explained: “We understand the hard work and dedication it takes to compete at this level, and we want to give our athletes all the support they need to succeed. We will continue to monitor each rider\\\\\\\’s progress and make our final team selection in due course.
\\\\\\\”Congratulations to all the riders on the shortlist. We wish everyone the very best of luck in their preparations for the event.”
The 2024 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship will be held at the Circuit Kamperweg Heerde in the Netherlands, on the 14th of July 2024.
